Help us to shape the future of food safety

Lloyd's Register Foundation (the Foundation), a charitable foundation helping to protect life and property by supporting engineering-related education, public engagement and the application of research, today announces a foresight review on food safety and calls for contributions from experts worldwide. This call supports the Foundation's mission to advance the safety of life and advance public education. The Foundation is supported by the work of Lloyd's Register (LR), one of the world's leading providers of professional services of engineering and technology.

The Foundation and LR invite the world's leading food safety experts representing academia, NGOs, regulatory bodies and food sector organisations, to contribute to the development of the review through a series of upcoming workshops. The review will address food safety across the short and longer term, looking at trends and challenges for society in the safe and secure production of food across the entire supply chain. It will take a global perspective and will make recommendations on research, innovation, education, policy and practice needed to plan for a healthy and safe future for all.

Vincent Doumeizel, Vice President Food & Sustainability at Lloyd's Register, said: "LR serves over 33,000 clients in the food sector alone - from the world's best-known brands to the smallest of suppliers. Organisations are facing rising safety, food supply, technology, and environmental challenges along with tougher stakeholder and often governmental requirements, all of which is underpinned by growth and profitability concerns; the Foundation's foresight review on food safety will aim to address some of the major issues which will help to shape the future of safe food for society everywhere and set out an agenda for action through research, innovation and training."

Commenting on the Foundation's latest initiative, Professor Richard Clegg, Foundation Chief Executive, said, "Research, innovation and skills in science and technology are vital to solving the economic and societal challenges of our world - and food safety is a prime example. We are delighted to be funding this pivotal report which we believe will significantly contribute to shaping the future of food safety."
