Dan McDougall

Dan McDougall is a Film Director, Writer and British Foreign Correspondent of the
Year - the UK equivalent of a Pulitzer Prize, an award he has also been nominated for
three-times. To date he has won four Amnesty International Awards for Human Rights
Reporting - covering issues as diverse as child rape in South Africa, LGBT persecution in
Syria, the plight of Europe’s Roma and Zimbabwe’s deadly trade in Blood Diamonds. A
former BBC Panorama Presenter, and undercover reporter, Dan was the Sunday Times
of London Africa Correspondent, based in South Africa, covering 48 of 54 African
nations, and the South Asia Correspondent for The Guardian, based in New Delhi,
extensively covering Afghanistan, Pakistan, Nepal, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Sri Lanka and
India.


In his storied career he has reported, overtly and covertly, from no fewer than 126
nations including some of the most hostile environments in the world. For his work in
Yemen, Somalia, Afghanistan, Libya, Congo. Liberia, Palestine and Sudan, Dan is proud to
be a Martha Gellhorn Prize Nominee for outstanding War Reporting - the international
journalism award named after one of his great journalistic heroes. Dan’s recent film for
Guardian documentaries, Open Water, shot in Greenland, has been shortlisted for 30
leading film festivals, and was part of The Guardian’s International Webby nomination for
2020.
