Dr Flower Msuya
Dr. Flower E. Msuya is a Senior Researcher, Founder and Chairperson of the Zanzibar Seaweed Cluster Initiative in Tanzania where she links farmers and small-scale processors to research/academia, government and private sector.
For many years, Flower has researched on seaweed farming focussing on farmers’ livelihood development where she produced the first seaweed value-added product in Tanzania in 2006; her work has resulted in more than 28 groups of processors who produce more than 60 products in her country.
In the past six years, she researches on impact of climate change on seaweed and she is particularly engaged in developing innovative seaweed farming technologies to farm in deep waters so as to curb the impact of climate change and increase seaweed production in Tanzania and neighbouring countries.
