Carlos Silva Filho, President, International Solid Waste Association (ISWA)
Carlos Silva Filho is the President of the International Solid Waste Association (ISWA). He is an accomplished Attorney at Law with a specialization in Administrative, Governance, and Economic Regulation. He began started working in the waste industry in 1999.
His expertise in waste and resource management is recognized on a global scale as he serves as a Member of the UN Secretary-General’s Advisory Board on Zero Waste, is Vice President of the Brazilian Institute of Solid Waste, and participates in key committees focused on waste management and environmental sustainability. Previously, Carlos has been actively involved in the Steering Committee for both the Global Waste Management Outlook and the Latin America and Caribbean Regional Waste Management Outlook, initiatives spearheaded by the UN Environment Programme.
Carlos is also a leading member of the Coalition for the Progressive Closure of Dumpsites in Latin America and the Caribbean. His leadership extends to coordinating the Brazilian National Solid Waste Plan, Planares 2022, where he oversees a variety of projects related to Waste Management, Waste Strategies, Regulation, Public-private Partnerships, and Marine Litter.
In addition, Carlos is an author and thought leader in the field, having written books includnig “Solid Waste: what the law says” and “Solid Waste Framework in Brazil”. He also served as a co-editor for “Effective Waste Management and Circular Economy”, contributing significant expertise to the literature on environmental governance and sustainable practices.
