Aalto University, Finland, leads consortium Arctic shipping and operations. Holistic treatment of the design-relevant features and their identification to ensure transport safety. Definition of hazard scenarios, their occurrence probability and consequences. Focus on entire life cycle of ship or installation, not only the initial service load conditions. 

The Alan Turing Institute, UK Data-centric engineering: Engineering applications of big data to improve safety through advanced mathematics, computer science, algorithms and big data. 

City University London, UK, leads consortium International Institute for Cavitation Research, including participation from the Far East and other areas of excellence worldwide. Cavitation is the formation of vapour bubbles of a flowing liquid in regions where the pressure of the liquid falls below its vapour pressure. Understanding cavitation and the effects of cavitation erosion on materials has implications for engineering and for medical research.

Imperial College London, UK Lloyd's Register Foundation Transport Risk Management Centre. Continuity funding for research programmes inherited from The LRET in 2013, to retain expertise and enable grants holders to address our new strategy and funding priorities. 

Imperial College London, UK Project to produce a foresight review of energy storage as commissioned by the Foundation. The preparation of the report will be led by Prof Nigel Brandon. 

Lancaster University, UK, leading a consortium Joint Research Centre for the Safety of Nuclear Energy. To increase the understanding of existing nuclear energy systems and processes, reducing the uncertainty in data used to identify and analyse their hazards and associated risks. Investigating safety across reactor lifetime extension, new reactor design, fuel cycle options, safeguards and non-proliferation.  

National University of Singapore, Singapore Centre for Offshore Research & Engineering. Specialising in offshore technologies and LNG, focusing on asset integrity and safety, innovative structural systems and marine operations and installation.  

Pusan National University, South Korea Ship and Offshore Research Institute. Risk-based design and engineering, with non-linear structural mechanics and analysis. Flexible die-based cold forming of curved plates. Corrosion assessment and management.  

Royal Academy of Engineering, UK Post-doctoral engineering fellowships to a maximum of two individuals each year, each funded for five years. 

Royal Academy of Engineering, UK RAEng/LRF Fellowship. The Fellowship/s will be awarded competitively in research areas aligned with the Foundation’s strategic and charitable goals. 

Seoul National University, South Korea Research into ship design, and student exchanges. Fluid structure interaction problems for ship design. Theoretical dynamics, practical hydrodynamics, elasticity and mechanics of composites in relation to marine surface vehicles of various hull forms. 

Shanghai Maritime University, China International Institute for Transport and Environment. Investigating the complex relationship between different modes of transport, emissions and air quality and developing a framework for better management of urban transport to maximise environmental improvement. 

The Welding Institute (TWI), UK National Structural Integrity Research Centre (NSIRC): founder sponsor and board member of the newly- established Structural Integrity Research Foundation which is responsible for the governance of NSIRC. A major collaboration between government, industry and academia. Our funding will create up to 83 PhDs and EngD students. 

University College London, UK, leading a consortium Continuity funding for research programmes inherited from The LRET in 2013, to retain expertise and enable grants holders to address our new strategy and funding priorities. Joint Centre in Deep Water Engineering and Hydrodynamics. To investigate challenges which affect offshore oil and gas industries operating in ultra-deep water to inform the engineering of offshore structures. 

University of Aberdeen, UK Safety and reliability engineering. Practical and theoretical problems relating to safety and reliability engineering, with due emphasis on the effect of human factors. Considering ageing assets, new technology for extreme environments, and reliability of renewable energy infrastructure. Development and use of risk and reliability concepts. 

University of Cambridge, UK, leading a consortium Nanotechnology in subsea power infrastructure: copper/carbon nanotube metal matrix composites in the fabrication of electrically conductive materials with enhanced properties. 

University of Manchester, UK, leading a consortium Designer nanomaterials assembled from individual atomic planes. 

University of Nottingham, UK Continuity funding. Centre for Risk and Reliability Engineering. 

University of Southampton, UK Continuity funding. Southampton Marine and Maritime Institute. Ship design for enhanced environmental performance and safety. 

University of Southampton, UK RECOIN project: Reducing risk and enhancing security by understanding coincidence in information spaces. 

University of Southampton, UK International Consortium in Nanotechnology (ICON): at least 50 PhD student projects worldwide 

University of the West of England, UK, leading a consortium International Water Security Network. Urban water security and environmental management. Investigating trans-boundary water security and governance, and water quality, addressing technical, legal, social and political challenges and solutions.  
University of Western Australia, Australia Follow-on funding to encourage our researchers to align with our strategic objectives: supporting the Centre for Offshore Foundation Systems.
