About this event

The Lloyd’s Register Foundation Safety Grand Challenge exhibition presents prototypes designed by students from the Royal College of Art aimed at promoting innovations for saving lives at sea and on rivers. Cross-disciplinary groups of students produced tangible outcomes that demonstrate how design can trigger behaviour change reduce risk to life in safety related incidents.

Throughout the course of the project students employed design as a cutting-edge, innovative and strategic medium focusing on two topics: (1) pilot transfer from ship to ship and (2) making the river Thames the safest river for the year 2030, topics developed by eight group of students from the Schools of Architecture, Communication, Design and Humanities. The project was supported by a number of industry partners including the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI), The Port of London Authority and the Associated Pilot Pilot.

The RCA students will be available to talk about their projects on 23 and 24 February, between 16.00-17.00.
