The Global Safety Evidence Centre is a hub for people who want to know ‘what works’ to make people safer.

We collate, create, and communicate the best available evidence on both the nature a scale of global safety challenges, and what works to address them.

Our purpose

The Centre was established in 2025, backed by a £15 million investment from Lloyd’s Register Foundation over 10 years.

It was formed in response to a concerning scarcity of reliable, high-quality evidence on the comparative effectiveness of difference safety measures, and a need to make evidence more relevant and accessible to practitioners in different global and industrial contexts.

This need was identified initially in a foresight review of global safety evidence, and confirmed in two reports published in May 2025: a systematic review of OSH interventions reviews, and the findings of a consultation with OSH practitioners in high-risk sectors around the world.

The Centre has three core evidence programmes

Our people

The Centre's day-to-day operations are managed by the Foundation's Evidence and Insight team.

Dana is the Head of Impact at the Foundation, overseeing the creation and use of evidence in our grant making and charitable activities to maximise impact. She develops systems and leads continuous learning initiatives for impact planning, monitoring, and evaluation, with a particular focus on generating new insights into how safety is conceptualised, measured, and valued as a result of the Global Safety Evidence Centre programmes.

Emily is Research and Trials Lead at the Global Safety Evidence Centre. She leads on primary evidence collection and research methodology, with a particular focus on quasi-/experimental approaches.

Chizoba is an Evidence Reviewer at the Global Safety Evidence Centre, producing accessible, policy-facing evidence syntheses for decision-makers and contributing to the Centre's systematic review and evidence synthesis portfolio.

The advisory panel

The Expert Advisory Panel for the Global Safety Evidence Centre are an independent panel of sector leaders who provide strategic guidance, expert advice and vital stakeholder perspectives. They support the Centre in delivering its priorities as a trusted creator, collator, and communicator of safety evidence and insight, ensuring the evidence is robust and credible, relevant and useful, and communicated well.

The panel’s diverse expertise is drawn from government, industry, academia and civil society. They have an advisory role on all the Centre’s projects, both in-house and delivered by partners, as part of its quality assurance process. Their advice also forms a crucial part of the review process for grants offered by the Centre to fill safety evidence gaps.
