Diversity and inclusion

At Lloyd's Register Foundation we want everyone to feel they belong; to be a place of safety where we can be our authentic selves and bring our unique perspectives and talents to every challenge.

This page is approximately a 4 minute read

We are all different and we all belong.

We are all different. Diverse thinking brings many perspectives to bear on our customers’ challenges and the communities we support through the work of the Foundation. This way we can develop the best possible solutions and have the greatest impact.

We will enable colleagues in every country and role to create an environment where everyone feels seen, heard and valued; where listening and respect are fundamental; where constructive challenge happens without fear, and we have the courage to change.

Lloyd's Register Foundation is a great organisation, but we can do even better. By nurturing inclusion and giving it room to grow, so too will our people, our business and our purpose of working together for a safer world.

Gender Equality Network

We are committed to removing gender bias from across our organisation and beyond. And we’re making solid progress. GEN is inclusive – providing a safe space to share the gender-related issues impacting us all, while being a powerful voice for companywide education and change.

  • To raise awareness of gender-related issues within and across cultures, providing a safe and open space for dialogue and debate
  • To encourage learning, promote understanding and build a more diverse and inclusive workplace.

Our initiatives

  1. Safe Habour - a series of monthly drop-in sessions for GEN members to come together to discuss gender-related topics in a safe, confidential and new virtual environment.
  2. #EmbraceEquity Talks – Monthly interviews with female leaders within LR — an opportunity to learn from their journeys, challenges and strategies to overcome them.
  3. Raising awareness on gender-related issues with development opportunities.

Beth Elliot Director of Strategic Communications

I joined the Gender Equality Network because I believe there is a critical need to build a more gender-equal world where we all have access to the same opportunities, whether at work, at home or in society. By valuing everyone equally, we can build a fairer and safer world so we can all reach our potential.

DisAbility Alliance

As well as providing a safe space for discussion and support, DisAbility Alliance is a recognised consultative forum ensuring that organisational culture and ways of working reflect both the needs and the ambitions of people with disabilities. Colleague-led, with executive sponsorship and allies across our global business, our growing network aims to reframe perceptions and empower our members to succeed.

  • A safe space where persons with seen and unseen disabilities, carers and allies can exchange experiences and support one another.
  • Recognise and celebrate disability awareness and deepen understanding across LR and beyond.
  • Recognise and celebrate disability awareness and deepen understanding across LR and beyond and take advantage of new opportunities our digitalisation strategy presents to improve accessibility and encourage new ways of working.

DisAbility Alliance initiatives

  1. Building awareness on both seen and unseen disabilities in the workplace through webinars.
  2. Engaging with network members to provide peer group support to each other.
  3. Active campaigning for self-identification, especially around disabilities, so that this set of data can inform our HR policies.

EthNet

EthNet is all about promoting visibility, cultural sensitivity, connections and career development for people of all backgrounds, cultures and faiths. It’s a forum for discussion, to plan awareness building initiatives and, through our peer group leaders, to share those experiences and recommendations with senior stakeholders. So we can all play a role in building an inclusive organisation – where everyone from all multicultural backgrounds has a voice and access to the best career opportunities.

  • Bringing together colleagues from different cultures, languages, nationalities and backgrounds in one forum.
  • Promote cultural awareness education & connecting members with all leaders.
  • Provide opportunities for building networks, advancing careers and sponsoring events and activities to create familiarity around colleagues’ diverse cultures

EthNet initiatives

  2. #Careertalk series on ‘Doing business in each region by a business leader(s) demonstrates the necessary business skill sets and cross-cultural competence one has to have to navigate our complex world and succeed
  3. #CommunityOutreach - Amplifying the unheard voices to mark World Refugee Day on 20th June. The aim was to raise money for a charity drive by LR Foundation & UNICEF for refugees displaced due to conflicts.

Unity Network

Unity is a companywide forum supporting LGBTQIA+ colleagues and allies. Our peer-led network not only offers a safe space to share experiences, but it also seeks to drive positive change across LR and the wider marine industry – calling out discrimination and helping to direct company policy on issues that impact the community, such as gender transition, rainbow families and more.

  • To raise awareness of LGBTQIA+ issues in the workplace, our communities, and the maritime industry.
  • To develop LR as a voice and thought leader in LGBTQIA+ issues within the maritime industry.
  • Act as a critical friend on culture and policies within LR to ensure LGBTQIA+ colleagues are supported.
  • To celebrate and/or commemorate national and international LGBTQIA+ events.
