HELMEPA's public awareness campaign: next stop, Sparta.

The programme is aimed at schoolchildren and the public with a theme on the marine environment, shipping and sciences.

HELMEPA is bringing its travelling programme, Educational Community and Public Awareness Campaign on the Marine Environment, Shipping and Sciences, to the famous city of Sparta. There the campaign will be run from 25 April to 9 May 2017 under the auspices of the Regional Authority of Lakonia.

This initiative is supported by the Foundation and has already visited 23 Greek towns and cities since 2011, involving more than 24,000 students and 1,700 teachers. Besides raising awareness among schoolchildren and teachers on the themes of the campaign, the aim of this initiative is also to inspire children to learn more about science, engineering and new technologies in the service of the environment and humanity.

The campaign’s environmental exhibition will be hosted at the headquarters of the Regional Authority of Lakonia. The exhibition will be opened on Tuesday 25 April at 12.00; daily opening times for schools are from 09.00 to 13.00 and for the public until 15.00.

Working with the directorates of primary and secondary education of Lakonia, HELMEPA will fund the transport of some 1,000 pupils of local primary and high schools to attend the exhibition. Also there will be a ‘train-the-trainer’ seminar for teachers, The marine environment and us: ensuring a sustainable future, and voluntary activities in co-operation with the education directorates of Lakonia and local stakeholders.
