Conference
Lloyd’s Register Foundation is hosting a half-day side event during the UN Ocean Conference in Nice, France, on June 10th between 09:00 – 13:00pm (CEST), followed by a one hour networking lunch. With speakers from UNESCO IOC, the World Economic Forum, the UN Global Compact and many others, the event focuses on the essential role of engineers in creating a safe and sustainable ocean economy.
‘Turning ideas into action – championing the role of engineers in building a safe and sustainable ocean economy’ is a unique opportunity during the UN Ocean Conference to discover why and how engineering is vital to safely conserve and sustainably work with our oceans. Participants will have the opportunity to learn about exciting and innovative examples of safe ocean engineering practice from insights to vessel design, to the decommissioning of ocean infrastructure.
With $90 trillion projected for ocean infrastructure investment over the next decade, policy and legal frameworks need clear engineering principles, data, standards and metrics to catalyse responsible policy and business practices.
The big challenge is no longer the search for climate change evidence, but the search for ways to avoid its mitigation and advance, many of which will be engineering and technology focused.
Practical action to conserve and sustainably manage the ocean must be built on nature and people-positive engineering expertise to meet SDG14 and Ocean Decade goals. In this session, experts from around the world will demonstrate the value of engineering and workshop with participants to lay the foundations for an actionable roadmap which embeds engineering more firmly into the ocean sustainability agenda.
You can expect presentations from industry leading, multinational organisations including:
