Executive summary
The Lloyd's Register Foundation Strategy for 2019 to 2024 is a comprehensive plan focused on "Engineering a Safer World." The Foundation aims to leverage its unique global reach, technical expertise, and historical legacy to address critical safety challenges across various sectors, including maritime, food safety, and digital systems.
The strategy is built around three primary goals:
- Establishing the Best Evidence and Insight: The Foundation will use data and research to understand and address the complex factors affecting safety. This includes creating a world-leading centre for safety evidence and insight and launching initiatives like the World Risk Poll to gather global data on public perceptions of risk.
- Focusing on the Most Pressing Challenges: The Foundation will concentrate its efforts on key areas where there is a compelling need for safety improvements, such as the safety of digital systems, food safety, and infrastructure resilience.
- Building Global Coalitions for Change: Recognizing that global challenges require global solutions, the Foundation will form partnerships and coalitions to drive impactful change, promoting safety on an international scale.
Through this strategy, the Lloyd's Register Foundation seeks to reduce risks, enhance safety across critical infrastructures, and foster innovation in safety practices, ultimately making the world a safer place for all.
Professor Richard Clegg Former Chief Executive
Lloyd’s Register Foundation is a growing global charity and this new strategy will enable us to have greater impact than ever before. Our strategy starts with evidence – we will strive to understand the complex factors that most affect safety. Our interventions will be driven by evidence of what works – in fact, we plan to build the world’s best centre for safety evidence and insight which others can use. We want to have a big impact, so we are coalescing around just a few big challenges with big goals – making the sea safer, making food safer and improving society’s understanding of risk
