Conference

Join Lloyd's Register Foundation and Royal Museums Greenwich at London International Shipping Week for our panel discussion on culture and careers in maritime, and the role heritage can play in supporting a more diverse and sustainable talent pipeline for the industry.

Overview

Join us for an insightful discussion as our panelists discuss the maritime industry’s need to build a more diverse and sustainable talent pipeline, and the role that culture and heritage can play in supporting this. Our panellists bring expertise from across industry, academia, culture and heritage, and will share their plans, ideas and solutions to address this critical challenge that faces the sector today.

We will delve into the crucial issues, asking: how can we collaborate in our efforts to meet these joint goals and ultimately, how do we inspire people from a range of backgrounds to pursue maritime careers?

Following the panel discussion, we will be offering refreshments and a chance to network with other attendees until 5:00pm.

Discussion topics

During the session, we will be covering four key topics:

  • Understanding the current picture: are the right people entering maritime careers? What and where are the actual skills gaps?
  • Who’s missing? How do we expand the skills pipeline discussion to include the public, and reach both more people and more diverse demographics?
  • Options for change: how do we move beyond career talks, including leveraging maritime's culture, heritage, and relevance to speak to diverse communities.
  • Making the change: collaborating better for stronger collective impact.
