The Centre for Assuring Autonomy, a partnership between Lloyd's Register Foundation and the University of York, has published a report highlighting the impact of 26 unique Demonstrator Projects conducted since it was established, initially as the Assuring Autonomy International Programme, back in 2018.
The Demonstrator Projects spanned multiple domains including maritime, space, and healthcare. The review showcases the breadth, impact, and legacies of the demonstrator projects, including how they influenced safety assurance thinking around autonomous systems across the world. In addition, they helped experts at the CfAA develop a shared understanding on the core challenges in assuring and adopting autonomous systems.
The total portfolio of projects represents over £5.5mil of investment, and the real-world examples contained within the review have been instrumental in helping organisations make evidence-based decisions that support the scaling up of safe autonomy across industries, sectors and disciplines.
