Women to Watch for 2022

We are excited to announce our new Chief Executive of Lloyd’s Register Foundation, Ruth Boumphrey has been named one of the Women to Watch for 2022 in the annual supplement compiled by Cranfield University’s School of Management. The supplement spotlights 100 leading female professionals to inspire executive search firms, FTSE Board chairs, and other Directors to look at gender diversity in a different way.

Ruth became CEO in July 2022, having previously been in the role of Director of Research and Strategic Programmes, where she led major programmes including with the Alan Turing Institute on data-centric engineering; with Arup on ‘the Resilience Shift’, a programme to enhance the resilience of critical lifeline infrastructures; with Gallup on ‘The World Risk Poll’, a multi-year global survey of public attitudes to risk; and the Lloyd’s Register Safetytech Accelerator, inspiring entrepreneurs to develop digital solutions to safety problems.

Dr Boumphrey has a well-rooted background in research, development, and regulation primarily in the Space and Environmental sectors. Earlier positions include Chair of the Welding Institute, and the TWI Innovation Network (universities and businesses working together developing new technologies).

She remains a trustee of the National Oceanography Centre, a non-executive director of the UK Government’s Centre for Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences (CEFAS), is a Commissioner at the National Preparedness Commission, is on the editorial board for the Cambridge University Press journal in Data-centric Engineering, and was previously on the Council at Lancaster University, one of the UK’s top ten universities. She is also a leader of Engineering X: a global collaboration bringing together the world’s best problem-solvers to address the great challenges of our age.

As Lloyd’s Register Foundation launches into its second decade, Ruth sets out a clear ambition to work with and support organisations on the ground in geographies which need it most, increasing capacity and knowledge and in doing so, ensuring safety is on the agenda around the world.
