2022 marks Lloyd’s Register Foundation's 10 year anniversary. As part of the celebrations, we launched an award at our Safer World Conference to recognise an individual whose skills or education training has been supported by the Foundation who has subsequently gone on to deliver outstanding impact in global safety.
Applicants were assessed on:
Following a lengthy judging process, where submissions from across the Foundation’s grants community and around the world were evaluated by a panel of Lloyd’s Register Foundation experts, a winner was decided – Stavros Sidiropoulos, Founder and CEO of Vianair Inc.
Stavros - a member of the Foundation’s Network to Engineer a Safer World (NEST) - has gone from a post-graduate at the Foundation's Transport Risk Management Centre, Imperial College London to one of engineering’s brightest sparks, improving the efficiency of airports around the world.
As the Founder and CEO of Vianair, Stavros has helped develop next generation tools for efficient airport operations management, planning and design. Vianair’s Airspace Informational Model (AIM) software takes a more holistic view of airports and airspaces, streamlining arrivals and departures at big city airports to ease congestion, reduce emissions and make flying safer. Currently the software is being used by the Port Authority of New York and New jersey (PANYNJ) and Fraport, the airport authority of Frankfurt Airport – the fourth busiest airport in Germany.
“To be recognised for the 10th Anniversary Student Impact Award at the Safer World Conference 2022 is a great honour. At Vianair we are proud to be a member of the Lloyd’s Register Foundation family, and we will continue to champion the Foundation’s mission of engineering a safer world.”
“The Foundation’s funding of student programmes, qualifications and apprenticeships has always been a source of great pride to us and it has been a privilege to be part of Stavros’ journey, from PhD student to successful technologist and entrepreneur. He embodies our mission as he continues his journey to engineer a safer world."
“Stavros and his company Vianair have already managed to create outstanding impact in the aviation industry that benefits society. The financial part of the award will target even greater impact to more people across the globe. Stavros is a member of our NEST programme, an initiative for those whose education and training have been supported by Lloyd’s Register Foundation; it provides members access to further development and networking opportunities that help brilliant people be even more impactful."
