The United Nations Global Compact and Lloyd's Register Foundation are delighted to invite you to the Ocean Centres Reports Launch, taking place on 21 October 2026.

Overview

This special event marks a significant milestone for the Ocean Centres initiative, a partnership between Lloyd’s Register Foundation and the UN Global Compact to put safety at the heart of the transition to sustainable ocean economies.

The event will be an opportunity to celebrate the achievements, insights and lessons learned during its first 18 months of implementation. The launch will also unveil eight new reports: National Ocean Centres Reports from Brazil, Ghana, Kenya, India, Bangladesh, Indonesia and the Philippines, alongside the Global Ocean Centres Report.

The 90-minute programme will feature a series of engaging panel discussions exploring the impact of the initiative to date and opportunities to get involved.

Attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions, exchange perspectives and engage directly with Ocean Centres leaders and partners.

Discussions will explore:

  • The critical role of safety in enabling the sustainable growth of ocean industries — a distinctive focus of the Ocean Centres
  • Key findings and recommendations from the newly launched reports, including progress across the initiative’s four Action Areas: Shipping & Ports; Fishing & Aquaculture; Offshore Renewables; and Finance & Investment
  • Lessons learned from the first phase of implementation
  • The importance of locally led evidence in driving national and international partnerships and shared learning

Speakers

  • Ruth Boumphrey, Chief Executive, Lloyd's Register Foundation
  • Erik Giercksky, Head of Ocean, United Nations Global Compact

They will be joined by Patricia Furtado de Mendonça, Global Lead of the Ocean Centres initiative, together with Ocean Centres representatives:

  • Nana Kwabena Boakye-Boampong (Ghana)
  • Randhi Satria (Indonesia)
  • Rubens Filho (Brazil)
  • Stephen Kimenye (Kenya)
  • Syed Arif (Bangladesh)
  • Yrhen Balinis (Philippines)

Additional partners, stakeholders and invited guests will also participate in the discussions.

Networking reception

The programme will conclude with a networking cocktail reception, providing an opportunity to connect with Ocean Centres representatives, partners and fellow attendees while continuing the conversation.

We look forward to welcoming you to London to celebrate this important milestone and explore the next chapter of the Ocean Centres initiative.
