A new call for proposals has been launched today to identify the Management Team that will lead the Systems Hub for a Safe and Sustainable Energy Transition in Colombia—an initiative aimed at strengthening collaboration, innovation, and systemic impact in Colombia’s energy sector.

Scaling Colombia’s energy sector

The Systems Hub will act as a collaborative platform to bring together diverse actors from government, academia, engineers, industry, civil society, to co-create solutions to some of the sector’s most pressing challenges. Rather than implementing individual projects, the Hub will coordinate strategic missions, foster cross-sector partnerships, and build long-term capacity for the switch to renewable energy.

The initiative is supported by Engineering X, a growing collaboration founded by the Royal Academy of Engineering and Lloyd’s Register Foundation, in partnership with Spanish consultancy Hexagonal. The selected Management Team will consist of either a single Colombian organisation or a consortium. The Hub has a total budget of £730,500 over its initial three-year implementation period, designed to ensure effective delivery, generate strategic learning, and support future scalability.

“Colombia’s energy transition is a challenge requiring coordinated action across sectors and, crucially, community involvement,” said Dr Nick Starkey. “We are excited that Engineering X will support the creation of a Systems Hub to help that happen.  The Hub will build on local knowledge and leadership to connect innovators and align activity to drive meaningful impact.”

The opportunity follows a year-long co-creation process with over 150 stakeholders across Colombia’s energy ecosystem. From October 2025, the Management Team will coordinate strategic missions, facilitate multistakeholder learning, and work toward the Hub’s long-term sustainability.

Applications are open until 29 July 2025, with shortlisted teams invited to submit a full proposal in August. Activities will be delivered in Spanish, though applications must be submitted in English.
