Foundation Chief Executive attends UN General Assembly
Ruth Boumphrey attended the High-Level Ocean Meeting at the 78th United Nations General Assembly in New York.
As our Chief Executive, Ruth plays a pivotal role in driving the Foundation’s strategic direction and leading its charitable mission to engineer a safer world.
Chief Executive
Ruth became Chief Executive at Lloyd's Register Foundation in 2022, however she joined the organisation back in 2014 as Director of Research and Strategic Programmes, where she led major programmes with the Alan Turing Institute on data-centric engineering; Arup on ‘the Resilience Shift’, a programme to enhance the resilience of critical lifeline infrastructures; Gallup on ‘The World Risk Poll’, a multi-year global survey of public attitudes to risk; and the Lloyd’s Register Safetytech Accelerator, inspiring entrepreneurs to develop digital solutions to safety problems.
Ruth has a well-rooted background in research, development, and regulation, primarily in the Space and Environmental sectors. Her earlier positions include Chair of the Welding Institute, and the TWI Innovation Network, which was at group of universities and businesses who worked together to develop new technologies.
She is a trustee of the National Oceanography Centre, a non-executive director of the UK Government’s Centre for Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences (CEFAS), plus she is a Commissioner at the National Preparedness Commission.
Ruth is passionate about engineering and innovation, which is reflected in her role on the editorial board for the Cambridge University Press journal in Data-centric Engineering, and her role as a leader of Engineering X: a global collaboration bringing together the world’s best problem-solvers to address the great challenges of our age.
