The Resilience4Ports (R4P) initiative is led by International Coalition for Sustainable Infrastructure (ICSI) and supported by Arup, UN Climate Change High-Level Champions and Lloyd’s Register Foundation.

Enhancing and accelerating the resilience of ports and the communities that rely on them.

Overview

Resilience4Ports (R4P) is a multi-stakeholder initiative that seeks to enhance and accelerate the resilience of ports and the communities that rely on them. As the world undergoes fundamental shifts due to decarbonisation, technological advancement and climate change, R4P seeks to ensure that maritime systems can withstand, recover from and respond to these changes.

The programme is led by the International Coalition for Sustainable Infrastructure (ICSI) (previously Resilience Rising) and supported by core partners Arup, the Climate Champions Team and Lloyd's Register Foundation.

Major outputs from the Resilience4Ports initiative include:

  • Port Energy Supply for Green Shipping Corridors
    • This report, produced in collaboration with Lloyd’s Register and Arup, emphasises the role of ports in promoting alternative fuel infrastructure, using a green shipping triangle case study to showcase the scale and integration needed to support low-carbon fuels and unlock broader benefits.
  • Port Resilience Framework for Action
    • This framework for action describes ten goals – across three dimensions: economy and society; leadership and strategy; and infrastructure and ecosystems – that together can transform port performance. It provides a line of sight for port operators, managers, policy makers, engineers and other key stakeholders to embed resilience from policy through to implementation.

R4P is actively recruiting key stakeholders, subject-matter experts and thought leaders across the ports value chain and throughout the maritime sector to engage in programme activities. If you are interested in joining the effort, please reach out to R4P Programme Director, Dr Darshana Godaliyadde, [email protected]

“Ports face cumulative pressures from climate change, geopolitical uncertainty, net-zero commitments, technological disruption, and the urgent need for social and environmental equity. To meet these challenges, port infrastructure will have to be built, and existing structures adapted, on an enormous scale – including in emerging maritime economies throughout the Global South and Small Island Developing States (SIDS).”
